Sit down first and count the cost

To count the cost before making a decision either before venturing into an investment, a business, a relationship, or before embarking on a journey is not an act of fear, but a step of faith. In fact, it helps boost your faith, your confidence and enhance your preparation.

Matthew 25:34 NKJV

Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

In the scripture above, our Lord Jesus Christ gave a parable of ten virgin ladies among whom five were wise and five were foolish. What made the wise ones wise was because they had counted the cost before embarking on their journey. They had probably thoughts within themselves, “what if the groom didn’t come on time?”. They knew they didn’t have control over when the groom would come. So, they took extra oil along in case the groom delayed. That was their saving grace because what they thought actually happened.

The foolish ones, even though we’re also virgins, but yet were called foolish because they didn’t count the cost which would’ve helped them to know what else to prepare for. As a result, they lost the groom and all their efforts ended in vain.

Luke 14:28 NKJV says

For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—

Before saying I do, count the cost; before entering into that business venture or taking up that job, count the cost; before making that financial decision, count the cost; count the cost before rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord here in earth because even if Jesus is not real, it is safer to accept Him now and discover He is not real in heaven than to reject Him now and discover He is real in hell, so count the cost.

It is mostly safer to know what to expect and be prepared for it than to be caught unaware. And if there is any wrong decision you have made in the past that is currently affecting you, may the Mercy of God prevail over your life and that situation in Jesus name.
