DON’T WATCH YOUR FIRE GO OFF. KEEP IT BURNING!

Back in the old testament, the Israelites used to have a temple where they come to worship the Lord. Within this temple is the altar of God where sacrifices were made (Exo 25-32). God, in His wisdom instructed Aaron and his sons, through the mouth of Moses, never to allow the fire on the altar in the temple to go out. The priests were to burn wood every morning to ensure that the fire on the altar keeps burning.

Leviticus 6:12‭-‬13 NKJV
And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order on it; and he shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings. A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.

But after the death and resurrection of Jesus, we’ve now been made God’s temple.

II Corinthians 6:16 NKJV
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

Now, instead of dwelling in physical temple, God chooses to dwell in you and I. We’re now the temple of God, we’re now carrier of His altar. However, God still wants us to sustain His fire upon our lives.

Matthew 3:11 NKJV
…but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, … He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire (emphasis added)

Acts 2:1‭-‬3 NKJV
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come… And suddenly there came a sound from heaven… Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them (emphasis added)

These two scriptures shows that there’s still a dimension of the Holy Ghost that has to do with the baptism of fire because God still wants us to sustain His fire. That’s His desire for our lives. This is why Paul also told Timothy saying:

2 Timothy 1:6 AMP
That is why I remind you to fan into flame the gracious gift of God, [that inner fire—the special endowment] which is in you through the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination].

HOW TO KEEP OUR FIRE AFLAME
By burning wood on our altar every morning. In analogy, this simply means by meditating on God’s words and praying EVERY MORNING. These are two ways to keep your fire alive and burning. The early morning as pointed out by scripture is the best time to fan your fire to flame. Don’t postpone it till evening or later in the day when you probably would be exhausted. If you can’t sustain fanning your fire every morning on your own, then join a consistent prayer network. The goal is to keep your fire alive. This will help you sustain keep your fire burning.

Don’t watch the fire in you go off. It’s your responsibility to keep it aflame every morning. Don’t take this as an advice, see it as an instruction from God to you because in Christ, we’ve all been ordained as kings and priests (Rev 1:6).
