When the enemy wants to corrupt a man, he begins by tampering with his desires. If the enemy can control or influence your desires, he can corrupt your soul, your mind and even corrupt anything that God gives you. But if you can master and control your desires, it will be easier to live like God.
Adam and Eve heard God spoke to them audibly (Genesis 1:29-30, 2:16-17); they knew God’s word but yet the enemy was able to corrupt their heart and corrupt what God gave to them because they couldn’t control their desire (appetite). Satan was able to corrupt Judas Iscariot by simply influencing his desire for money (Luke 22:3-6).
2 Peter 1:4 NLT says
And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the WORLD’S CORRUPTION CAUSED BY HUMAN DESIRES.
The danger of corruption is that it can make a one miss God and His purpose for his life. Corruption blinds one’s heart and minds; it also defiles one’s soul making it impossible to be a partaker of God’s nature. Hence, the reason God commands that we guide our hearts will all diligence (Proverbs 4:23).
Don’t leave your desires unchecked. Everyday, keep subjecting it to the knowledge of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5; Proverbs 3:5-6). So that you can know which one is God’s perfect will. Remember, your heart, through your desire, is the gateway to your life. Keep it safe and checked!
