The scripture reveals to us in 2 Peter 1:3-4 that God has given us all things that pertains to live and godliness and precious promises that will enable us to share the nature of God.

2 Peter 1:34 NKJV

as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

God wants us to manifest His nature to the world. In other words, when someone says he/she is a believer, the world is supposed to see the nature of God through such a person. But why is this far from the reality of most Christians today? It is because there are things we have to know and do before that nature will manifest and these are carefully highlighted in 2 Peter 1:5-11.

II Peter 1:59 NKJV

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith VIRTUE, to virtue KNOWLEDGE, to knowledge SELF-SELF-CONTROL, to self-control PERSEVERANCE, to perseverance GODLINESS, to godliness BROTHERLY KINDNESS, and to brotherly kindness LOVE. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

The scripture above highlight the seven things we must add to our faith to make us fruitful believers. Then it assured us that if we pay attention to these things and grow in them, then we will be fruitful in our faith walk and as followers of Christ. Furthermore, it make us see that lack of these things is why some believer’s life is no different from unbelievers because they have forgotten that they’ve been cleansed from their old sin. Consequently, they keep doing the same old thing.

By God’s grace and if Jesus tarries, next week we will examine these seven things that will make our faith fruitful. May the Lord help us to do what is needful for us to be fruitful indeed in Jesus name, amen!
