Addictions are strongholds planted in the hearts of people by the enemy over the years. Any sin that controls you is an addiction. Lying, fornication, adultery, stealing, smoking, drinking, pornography, masturbating, laziness, etc, could become addiction. If you’re experiencing any of these, rejoice because there’s a solution for you in Jesus. Kindly follow the steps below to break the hold of addiction on your life.
STEP 1
Bring it to the light by confessing this sin and weakness to God. Of course God knows about it already, but consciously bringing it to Him openly shows you’re ready to be delivered. The bible in Proverbs 28:13 says “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy“.
STEP 2
Truly surrender your life to Jesus if you’re yet to do so. The bible says in Psalms 51:6 that “Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom“. God knows if you’re yet to surrender to Him and you know too. So He desires your complete honesty from the depth of your heart because He can’t be deceived. Therefore you have to truly and sincerely surrender to Him if you’re yet to do so or completely return to Him if you’re a backslider. This lays the foundation for your total deliverance because no one can successfully resist the devil in his life without first surrendering to the LORD. This is why James 4:7 says “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you“. Not until you sincerely and honestly surrender to the LORD, victory over sin is not possible.
STEP 3
Resist the devil, and the spirit of masturbation, pornography and lust in your life. Pray this consciously, with your whole heart and believe you’re free from it forever (James 4:7).
STEP 4
Replace the strongholds of addiction that the enemy has created in your heart by focusing on the victory that’s already secured for you in Jesus. The bible says in Romans 5:20-21 that “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord“. The bold text in the above scripture means anytime you’re tempted to sin, at that same spot and at that same hour, there’s a GREATER GRACE available for you in Jesus NOT TO fall for that sin. All you have to do is to SEE THAT GRACE. Therefore, anytime the thought and imagination of masturbating, lusting or watching pornographic contents comes to you again, say this to yourself aloud where sin abound, grace did much more abound in Jesus. Therefore, I embrace this grace in Jesus and I refuse to fall for this addiction. You spirit of addiction, masturbation, etc, loose your grip upon my life and get out of here now in Jesus name. Say this aloud and repeatedly for as many times as necessary and while confessing it, keep imagining the same scripture. Finally, confess this every day saying “Am free from every hold of the devil. Am free from addiction, am free from masturbation, am free from pornography, etc because whosoever Jesus has set free is free indeed (John 8:36). Confess it for as many times as needed everyday whether you’re on the road, on your bed, anywhere (at least 21times a day) and keep imagining your freedom as you declare it.
STEP 5
Detach from any friends or companies that can lure you back into this sin. Because evil communication corrupt good manners (1Cor 15:33). Any instrument around you, be it human or material things that God is pointing your heart to detach from. Detach without wasting time because if you want God’s grace to work for you, then you need to obey what He says (Rom 6:1).
I pray that the LORD keep you and empower you to follow these counsels faithfully. The hold of Satan is broken upon your life in Jesus name. You’re free indeed!
