God want us to forgive people not only from our lips, but also from the heart because that is the only way we can secure God’s forgiveness as well.
Jesus illustrate this with a parable in Mathew chapter 18 from verse 21 to 35. And the moral of that parable is that if we fail to forgive people, God won’t forgive us as well. In other words, God doesn’t condole unforgiveness or take it lightly. That is why Jesus said…
Matthew 18:35 NKJV
“So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, FROM HIS HEART, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”
It’s true some offenses may be very painful especially when it comes from someone you really trust, love or depend on. And it may seem impossible to forgive. But remember God is not just asking us to forgive, rather, He is commanding us to do it. This means with His help, we can do it.
Anytime you’re offended and it feels so painful, always remember that God also love you and sent Jesus Christ to die for you to prove that love. Yet, you have also disappointed Him, hurt Him, failed Him and sinned against Him many times. And yet He keeps forgiving you whenever you ask. This will help you gain strength and reason to forgive the offender. May the Lord help you in Jesus name, amen!
