One of the things about children is that they are easily distracted. And as we grow up, we keep fighting this same force of distraction in every aspects. Your effectiveness in managing distraction will determine how successful you will become in every aspects of life.
Distraction is why it seems like most (not all) of the new generation of students are becoming increasingly less brilliant. How? Because many of them can hardly focus on studying their books for 3 straight hours without being distracted with phones or TV. The same distraction is making it hard for adults to focus on building their career, their home, their spiritual life, an so on.

[23-27] KEEP VIGILANT WATCH OVER YOUR HEART; THAT’S WHERE LIFE STARTS. Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth; avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip. Keep your eyes straight ahead; IGNORE ALL SIDESHOW DISTRACTIONS. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust.
There are many sideshow distractions in life that will undoubtedly come your way and you must intentionally make up your mind to stay away from those distractions if you want to move ahead. If you can stay focus for six months whether concerning your spiritual life, your career, your business or concerning your family, you will be amazed the kind of progress you will experience.
Meanwhile, you should know that when you choose to be focused, you will offend some persons – those who enjoy shadow lifestyle will try to drag you into their world. But you must make up your mind to stay focused on what is most important to you. After all, we all have one life and we must make it count.
