For your own good, listen to wise counsel

It’s true that scripture says in the multitude of counselors, there is safety (Proverbs 11:14), but that is only if you have the right counselors. In the multitude of foolish counselors, there is danger not safety.

For instance, in first Kings chapter 12, king Rehoboam, the successor of king Solomon, took the advice of wrong counselors and that caused him to loose ten tribes out of the twelve tribes of Israel. He listened to the counsel of his mates instead of listening to the counsel of elders who served with his father (1 Kings 12:13-14).

In verse 28 of the same chapter, king Jeroboam, who was the over the remaining ten tribes of Israel at that time also took counsel from the wrong counselors who advised to set up idols in Israel and that acts became a major sin against Him (1 Kings 12:30).

Some persons have entered into wrong relation because of wrong counsel; some on the other hand quit their marriage because they were wrongly advised; so many persons now lives in regret because they acted based on wrong counsels. On the other hands, some person are eternally grateful and living a fulfilled life because they listened to right counsel.

Whatever counsel you heed, whether right or wrong, you will be the one to bear most of the consequences or enjoy the benefits. Wisdom therefore demands that you listen carefully to wise counsel.
