The bible in Proverbs 22:6 NKJV says “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it“. The action word there is “train”. Unfortunately, what some parents do is they “spoil up a child”.
Children are like young plants which needs both sunlight and water to grow. The water represent love, compassion and care while the sunlight represent training (discipline or correction). If you prevent a plant from sunlight because it’s scorching, then you’re indirectly preventing the growth of the plant or even killing it unknowingly. At the same time, exposing a young plant to too much water can harm the plant. YOUNG PLANTS NEED MODERATE WATER & MODERATE SUNLIGHT.
In the same way children needs moderate petting so they won’t groe to become mean and heartless. On the other hand, they also need moderate discipline so they won’t end up becoming spoilt and irresponsible. Every parents must learn to balance these two.
Proverbs 23:13–14 GNT says
Don’t hesitate to discipline children. A GOOD SPANKING won’t kill them. As a matter of fact, it may save their lives.
Proverbs 29:15 MSG also says
Wise discipline imparts wisdom; spoiled adolescents embarrass their parents.
Proverbs 29:15 GNT says it like this
Correction and discipline are good for children. If they have their own way, they will make their mothers ashamed of them.
Can you see that scripture is not against spanking children as long as it’s moderate and done in love?
PLEASE NOTE THESE SIGNS: when your children can’t smile, laugh or play moderately when you’re around, that’s a sign you’re too hard on them. So, you need to increase your level of compassion and be more friendly with them. On the other hand, when your presence makes your child naughty, irritating and uncontrollable, then that’s a sign you’ve spoilt them. So, you need to increase your discipline and be more firm with them when necessary because IF YOU STRUGGLE TO CONTROL A 3 to 5 YEAR OLD CHILD, WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE CHILD TURNS 16?
THE POINT IS: If you TRAIN UP (DISCIPLINE) a child in the right way, then he/she will remain a disciplined (well cultured, responsible, well behaved and we’ll mannered) as he/she grows up. On the other hand, if you SPOIL UP a child, then he/she will a remain a spoilt (bad cultured, irresponsible, irritating, uncontrollable, and bad mannered) person except by the help of God. We will not fail in our parental responsibilities in Jesus name.
