When an unbeliever falter, it doesn’t really make news. But when a righteous person fail, it becomes a big deal. When an unbeliever sin (lie, fight, formicate, etc.), people does not really react compared to when it’s done by a believer. Why? Because consciously and unconsciously, the world have an expectation from you as a believer. And any misbehavior from you will send the wrong message faster.
Proverbs 25:26 NKJV says
A righteous man who falters before the wicked Is like a murky spring and a polluted well.
Proverbs 25:26 AMP put it this way
Like a muddied fountain and a polluted spring Is a righteous man who yields and compromises his integrity before the wicked.
When you begin to compromise your values and integrity, before unbelievers you’ve become like a polluted spring (well). When you as a believer begin to cheat, lie, steal, fornicate, talk fear and doubt, gossip, etc. before unbelievers you’re simply saying you’re like a corrupted spring. HOW THEN DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO DRINK FROM YOU? HOW THEN DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO LISTEN TO YOU WHEN YOU TALK TO THEM ABOUT YOUR GOD? HOW DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO BELIEVE THAT CHRIST IS TRUE AND REAL?
Listen! Even if unbelievers tempt you to sin, as a believer they expect you not to compromise your values or fall for their temptation. They may say otherwise, but deep within them they expect you to prove who you claim to be. This is why the bible admonish us to live wisely in the world (1Peters 2:12).
I therefore plead with you not to compromise your values at work, amongst your friends, in business, before your neighbors and wherever you find yourself. May the Lord help us to represent Him well at all time so we won’t be like a polluted spring in Jesus name.
