SECRETS TO ENJOY OPEN HEAVEN AND ABUNDANCE OF THE EARTH
God, through Prophet Haggai in Haggai 1:1-11 reveals the challenges faced by His people, the causes and the solutions.
The challenges facing God’s people
- They work very hard but had little or nothing to show for it (Hagg 1:6).
- They were always having insufficiency of food, clothing and other basic human needs (Hagg 1:6).
- Those on salary never had enough not to talk of having enough to save (Hagg 1:6).
- Most of their good expectations never came to past (Hagg 1:9a).
- Their seasons of refreshment, rest and harvest were prolonged (Hagg 1:11).
Self reflection: are you facing any of the above challenges in any areas of your life?
The root cause (Haggai g 1:2, 4, 9b)
- They abandoned God’s house and allow it to remain in waste.
Self reflection: Have you abandoned God’s house (the church and fellowships) that you no more see it as a necessity? Have you abandoned your body (God’s house) to pleasing yourself alone that you no more yield it to God? Note: your body is the house of God (1 Cor 3:16; 6:19).
The solution (Haggai 1:8)
- Go up to the mountain. That is, seek God’s face, confess your faults (Psalm 24:3-4), pour your hearts to him and ask for his help (Heb 4:15-16).
- Bring wood. That is, re-equip, revive, and refill yourself with God’s word because just as woods are used in building houses, so is God’s word used in building Christians (Acts 20:32).
- Build the house. That is, cut off from every worldly acts, rebuild your prayer altar, get back to fellowship with God and His people, start presenting your bodies as a sacrifice back to God (Rom 12:1-2).
The People’s response to God’s word
- They obeyed God’s words and reverence him (Hagg 1:12).
- They built the house of God (Hagg 1:14).
God’s response to their obedience
- He promised to be with them (Hagg 2:4).
- He promised to fulfil His covenant with them (Hagg 2:5).
- He promised to fulfill their desires (Hagg 2:7).
- He promised to fill them with His glory (Hagg 2:7).
- He emphasized that He is the owner of Gold and silver, meaning He’s ready to bless them with it (Hagg 2:8).
- He promised them that the glory they will now will be more than what they’ve seen (Hagg 2:9).
- He promised to give them all round peace (Hagg 2:10).
- He promised to start blessing them from the moment they started building His house (Hagg 2:18-19).
- He promised to overthrow their enemies and destroy their strength (Hagg 2:22).
- He promised to seal the reign of their king (Hagg 2:23).
All these therefore mean if you will also obey God, reverence His word and build God’s house (first, yourself then his church), then God will also be with you, fulfil his covenant with you, fulfil your desires, fill you with His glory, bless you with silver and gold, glorify your life far beyond what you’ve experienced in the past, give you all round peace, bless you, overthrow your enemies and establish your reign on earth. This is God’s plan for you this month, please don’t miss it.
